“Scott Always Thought of the Worst Dares”

In the short story, “Sammy’s Choice,” by Mallory Leftland, a high school girl, Sammy, sneaks out of her house to a party where she is dared to pretend that she likes a girl named, Lucy, who isn’t part of the “in crowd”. Even though Sammy knows what she is doing is wrong and is hurting herself and Lucy, she still goes on with the dare. The author is trying to get across to the reader that Sammy knew what she was doing would turn out bad but she still accepted the dare.
When Sammy’s friend Scott was thinking of the dare she was, “nervous because Scott always [thought] of the worst dares.” Sammy allowed Scott to dare her even though she knew he wouldn’t cut her any slack. Sammy was aware that there would be consequences but she accepted the dare anyway.
Since Lucy was hanging out with Sammy and the “in crowd” all the time, her friend got “mad because she thinks [Lucy] ditched her. She thinks that [Lucy] can’t sit with anyone else.” Lucy’s friends were trying to protect her because they knew Sammy and her friends would ditch her, but Lucy decided not to listen.
During the week when Sammy had to pretend to like Lucy she started to “feel bad for what [she] was doing. As the week went on [she] really wanted to stop and tell Lucy about the dare.” Sammy knew what she was doing would hurt Lucy but she kept on going with the dare and didn’t tell Lucy because it was against the rules.
Sammy knew that she shouldn’t have gone along with the dare but she didn’t want her friends to make fun of her. In real life people do things that in the end they know will turn out bad. Mallory Leftland was trying to get the idea out to everyone that you should think about the consequences of your actions, before you act.

    “Being Yourself”
    May, 7th

In “Sammy’s Choice” by Mallory Lefland, a girl named Sammy goes to a party with some friends and gets dared to act like friends with “Loser” Lucy (a social outcast at school) for a week. Sammy knew she could take the dare and be friends with Lucy and stay popular, or she could do what she knew was right and not take the dare so she wouldn’t hurt Lucy even if it meant risking her social status.

At the party, Sammy’s dare to be friends with Lucy began. “You need to act like you want to be friends with Lucy at school on Monday. Then on Friday you need to tell her off,” her friends told her. Sammy accepted the dare to stay popular even though she knew it was wrong to do something like that for her own selfish reasons. Sammy did, however, have a bad idea about what might happen on Friday when she had to tell off Lucy.

Sammy little by little began to get more pressure from her friends to make even more friendly gestures towards Lucy, for example e-mailing her. Sammy’s friend Scott had her write a letter to Lucy saying, “Want to sit with me at lunch?” By Sammy doing this, Lucy really began to like Sammy even though that was what Sammy did not want to happen. Surprisingly, though, Sammy began to appreciate Lucy and like her despite her reputation.

Finally Friday arrived. This was when Sammy had to tell Lucy off. This was hard for Sammy because she began to like Lucy, and she realized how Lucy really was nice. Sammy got stuck between doing what she knew was right and doing the shallow thing: keeping herself popular and staying friends with people that were mean to others. Sammy made up her mind that she wanted to keep her status at school and wrote, “… I never wanted or will want to be your friend. I hope you enjoyed your week of fame because it’s up…” Sammy knew what she was doing and was a little upset when she saw Lucy read the note, but to keep her popular reputation, she did the wrong thing.

Sometimes people do mean things to maintain a popular status. They get so caught up in their position that they are willing to do anything it takes to stay where they are, even if it means putting someone else down or acting cruel to them for selfish reasons.

    My Popularity Story

Doing things that you have to do like be friends with people because that is the only way that you will get in that club or group.

One quote that supports my idea is on the playground when Adam says “boys who were making more noise and seemed to be having more fun then anyone else on the playground.” Meaning the two Allen’s were having more fun and making more noise then anyone else. Also this supports my idea because they are all outside and that is where Adam got dared.

Another quote is on the playground and Adam say’s “If I failed, I would get sent back to the stables.” My explanation for this supporting my idea is that it shows that he doesn’t want to fail the job because he really wants to be in the popular group.

Also the third quote I have is this (wondering if I would ever get a chance to prove myself) and the explanation for this is because of he wants to prove himself but he can’t fail to do the dare and he doesn’t want to fail because that would mean not being in the popular group.

Last but not least my conclusion it is related to life because sometimes you have to take a chance or a risk to be friends with a certain group also sometimes you have no choice but to do that dare like when I got dared to be friends with someone that I didn’t want to be friends so then I told that person at the end of the dare and now we are friends.

How Not To Get In A Club Or A Group

This story is was about people having to do things they don’t want to, to be able to be in a club.

One quote that supports the idea is when the boy’s were outside on the playground. The boy’s who were making more noise and seemed to be having more fun than anyone else on the playground. This quote supports my idea because they were outside and that’s where Adam got dared.

Another quote that supports my idea is that if I failed I would be sent back to the stables. If someone doesn’t want to do that thing, then they can’t in the group.

I was (wondering if I would ever get a chance to prove myself) The quote supports my idea because if you don’t get a chance to prove yourself then you won’t really know if you really had a chance to get in that club.

Here’s my conclusion. The life size. Sometimes you’ve got to take a chance and a risk. One time I was dared to be friends with someone that I didn’t know, and surprisingly I did it.

People learn to be friends with people that no one else will be friends with.
    By Brianna Kelly
“Jeremy Goldblatt Is So Not Moses”

Jeremy gave me a third of his babe Ruth, gave Candy Andy a third and saved a third for himself. We were all waiting for our parents then after Jeremy gave me a third of his babe Ruth my mom came to pick me up but Jeremy’s mom wasn’t there yet to pick him up yet. But Candy was still there when I was leaving from school. This goes with the idea that People learn to be friends with people that no one else will be friends with because it shows how they know to give people a chance when no one else will. Also they all gave each other a chance. Also they all were realizing that they were judging him because he was different then them.

Another character that gave Candy Andy a chance was Chelsea became friends with Candy Andy at the end of the book. Chelsea couldn’t believe that she was telling someone that she waved back to Candy Andy and couldn’t believe that she actually was starting to realize that she was starting to like him and kind of wanted to be friends with him. This is an example of my title because she looks past how Candy Andy and how he dressed and saw who he really is. They also don’t care that he might be poorer then them so they don’t care anymore that they are dressed better then Candy Andy.

Also Candy Andy learned to give Chelsea and Jeremy a chance and became friends with Chelsea at the end and Jeremy at the middle of the book. He was friends with Jeremy longer than he was friends with Chelsea. He realized that Chelsea wasn’t so bad and that he should give her a chance. This shows me title because it shows how Candy Andy looked past how Chelsea looked at him and saw her for who she really is which was a good person inside. Also they don’t care anymore about how he looks on the outside.

This all goes with People learn to be friends with people that no one else will be friends with because they all at the end were friends and the other kids were realizing that if Chelsea and Jeremy could be friends with Candy Andy then maybe they can be friends with him to and give him a chance. Also the other kids didn’t like him so maybe seeing Chelsea being friends with him and Jeremy being friends with him then they should be friends with him too. Also they wanted to be nice to him because they want to be like Jeremy and Chelsea.
